William McFarland is an American policeman who serves as the current Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives, after having been appointed by Speaker Kevin McCarthy on January 7, 2023.

Biography

McFarland attended the University of Maryland and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology. He later attended Webster University at Bolling Air Force Base, where he earned a Master of Arts in Security Management.[1]

He worked Security Aide/Facility Security Officer at the National Security Agency from 1990 to 1991. He then worked Security Aide for the United States Capitol Police, a position he held until 1995.

McFarland then transitioned to the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, where he was Director of Security from 1995 to 2005. In 2005, he became Director of the Office of House Security, and remained until 2021. He then worked in the private sector being appointed.[2][1]
