Venkataraman Thangadurai is a scientist recognized for his work in solid state ionics and chemistry. He holds a position as a professor at the University of Calgary, specializing in Chemistry.[1][2] Thangadurai has contributed significantly to the field with over 250 publications and 13 patent applications in his 30+ years of experience.[3]

Early life and education

Thangadurai, born in India, earned his Chemistry degrees from various institutions in Tamil Nadu and a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science in 1999. He pursued postdoctoral studies in Germany, receiving a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and a Habilitation degree in 2004 from the University of Kiel.[4]

Career and research

Thangadurai focuses on creating new materials for energy storage and conversion, especially in solid oxide fuel cells, batteries, and gas separation membranes. His research deepens the understanding of ion transport in solid electrolytes and aids in making high-performance materials for energy applications.[5] He's known for pioneering Li-based garnets in all-solid-state Lithium metal batteries and has published extensively in scientific journals. Thangadurai collaborates with industrial partners and research institutions to apply his findings practically, co-founding Ion Storage Systems and Superionics Inc.[6][7][8]
