Topi Rönni (born May 5, 2004) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player for Tappara Tampere of the SM-liiga.[1]

Playing career

The Calgary Flames drafted Rönni in the second round as the 59th player in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. Rönni missed most of the 2022–2023 season due to a knee injury and illness.[2] During the season, he played 22 regular season matches in the SM-liiga with five points. Rönni didn't play a match in the playoffs, but Tappara won the Finnish championship at the end of the season.[3] In the Champions Hockey League (CHL), Rönni played five matches and scored one assist. Tappara won the CHL championship.[4]

In May 2023, he signed a two-year contract extension with the club.[5]

Rönni has been accused of rape in the Helsinki District Court in the autumn of 2023. He is out of Tappara's operations while the case is being processed.[6][7]

Personal life

In his youth, Rönni was also involved in athletics with Tampereen Pyrintö, where he won silver in the Finnish discus throw championship competition as a 14-year old.[8]
