Sofía Slovena Cid Versalovic (born 29 September 1971) is a Chilean of Lebanese descent engineer and politician of the National Renewal party currently serving as a Deputy from District 4 of Atacama Region.[1] She previously served as Regional Ministerial Secretary of Economy of the Atacama Region.[2]

Background and career

Sofia Cid was born to Cid Estefan, a Lebanese born in Chile and her mother Clara Versalovic Calcagno. She had her early education at Liceo Sagrado Corazón de Copiapó and secondary education at Liceo Católico de Atacama. She earned a bachelor's degree in commercial engineering at the Gabriela Mistral University. After her graduation she worked in the private sector for 15 years before joining politics.[3]

Her major political career started on 11 March 2010 following her appointment as Regional Ministerial Secretary of the Economy for the Atacama Region. She served in this position until 2013 when she resigned to run for Copiapo seat in the Atacama Regional Council. Running on the Independent Democratic Union, she won the election with 3,029 or 7.03 per cent votes, the second majority. In 2016, she ran as an independent candidate for the mayor of Copiapo securing 6,668 or 16.98 per cent of the votes cast but that was not enough to coast her to victory in the election.[4]

Cid was elected to the Chamber of Deputies from District 4 on the ticket of National Renewal party in 2017. She scored 13,318 or 14.20 per cent of votes cast in the election. She was reelected to the Chamber in 2021 for a second term. Cid is a member of standing committees including Consumer Protection and Tourism, Account Auditor committee, Finance and Economy, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises committees.[5][6]
