Koviloor is a suburban village at the west entrance of Karaikudi of Sivaganga District located at a distance of approximately 6 km from Karaikudi Municipality limit on the way from Madurai. This village has one of the ancient temple of Arulmigu Kotravaaleeswara Temple which is more than 1500 years old built here, it is one of the famous temple in the state of Tamil Nadu and the village has one of the oldest mutt Koviloor Adheenam in the country.[1] Being an architectural example of unique Chettinad style, many movie shootings will be happening in this place all over the year.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, The total population of Koviloor[2] is 4,287 out of which 2,168 are males and 2,119 are females thus the Average Sex Ratio of Koviloor is 977.

Temples

There is a famous Arulmigu Kotravaaleeswarar temple [3] which was built by King Veerasekara Pandiyan, it is believed to be more than 1000 years old. It is built based on dravidian architecture with 7 towers. The entire temple is a gift to watch as each and every statues and idols are treat for the eyes.

Koviloor Adheenam [4] is one of the oldest mutt in the state, which is existing since 200 years old. This mutt will be played a major role in religious activities around the state especially in southern parts.

Transport

It is well connected by roads to the towns and cities nearby. It is located on the main road connecting Madurai city with Karaikudi. Town Buses are available from Tirupattur and Karaikudi and moffusil buses are avaialable all the day and night from the places like Karaikudi, Tiruppattur, Devakottai connecting Madurai.
