Iecava parish (Latvian: Iecavas pagasts) is one of the territorial units of Bauska Municipality in its north. The parish includes the city of Iecava from all sides. It is bordered by Code, Dāviņi, Mežotne, Stelpe and Vecumnieki parishes of its own Municipality, Salgale parish of Jelgava Municipality, Baldone parish of Ķekava Municipality and Olaine parish of Olaine Municipality. From 2003 to 2021, Iecava Municipality was located on its territory.

History

In the territory of today's Iecava parish, there were historically Brant (or Inkstrum) manor (Gut Ixtrumünde, Zālīte), Dzimtmisa manor (Gut Mißhof, Dzimtmisa), Gaiļu manor (Gut Gailen), Grantele manor (Gut Granteln), Grünwalde manor (Gut Grünwald), Lielpidriķu manor ( Gut Groß-Friedrichshof), Lieliecava manor (Groß-Eckau, Iecava), Podu manor (Gut Ixtrum).

In 1935, the area of Iecava parish of Bauska district was 257.8 km2 and 3434 inhabitants lived there.[1] In 1945, Iecava, Mežinieki and Zelmeni village councils were established in the parish, but the parish was dissolved in 1949. In 1954, the liquidated village of Zelmeni was added to the village of Iecava in Baldone district. In 1958, after the liquidation of the village of Iecava, the workers' village of Iecava was created with the rural territory subordinated to it, while the territory of the Kirov kolkhoz and the kolkhoz "Vienība" was included in the newly created Ziemeļi village. In 1959, Iecava with its rural territory was included in the Bauska district. In 1963, the territory of the collective farm "Iecava" was added to the urban village of Iecava from the village of Zālīte, in 1966 - the territory of the Soviet farm "Dartija", in 1971 - part of the territory of the Soviet farm "Progress". In 1977, the liquidated village of Ziemeļi and part of the territory of the liquidated village of Zālīte were added to the urban village of Iecava. In 1990, Iecavai was deprived of the rights of an urban village and together with the rural area was reorganized into a parish. Iecava parish was reorganized into a municipality in 2003, and again into a parish in 2021, separating the city of Iecava from Iecava parish.[2]
