The Administration of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu is the administrative unit of the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The Administration is led by an Administrator appointment by President of India. The union territory doesn't have elected legislative assembly. It governs three districts.

History

Both the territories earlier was part of Portuguese Empire and Daman and Diu was administered as colonies along with Goa while Dadra and Nagar Haveli was separate colony.

From 1954 to 1961, the ‘Varishta Panchayat of Free Dadra and Nagar Haveli' administered Dadra and Nagar Haveli and later it was annexed by belligerents of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Communist Party of India, United Front of Goans, Goa People's Party, Azad Gomantak Dal, National Liberation Movement Organizati in 1961on. The territories Dadra and Nagar Haveli were subsequently merged into the Indian Union in 196 Treaty was between Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and de facto Prime Minister of Dadra and Nagar Haveli K.G. Badlani.

On 19 December 1961, territories of Goa, Daman and Diu was annexed by Indian Army under Operation Vijay.[1][2] The mission was concluded within 32 hours. And Goa, Daman and Diu was put under military administration. Military administration ended in June 1962 and Legislative assembly of Goa, Daman and Diu formed. Before civilian government formed Kunhiraman Palat Candeth was head of territory.[3]

Executive branch

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu is administered as a union territory of India by virtue of Article 240 (2) of the Constitution of India. The President of India appoints an administrator to administer the territory on behalf of the central Government of India. The central government may appoint advisers to assist the administrator with his duties.

The current administrator is Praful Khoda Patel.[4] and his advisor is Gaurav Singh Rajawat, IAS.[5]
