Donald George Ruffin[1] (born February 21, 2002), known professionally as Duwap Kaine is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter from Savannah, Georgia. He is known for his projects Underdog and Bad Kid from the 4,[2][6][7] as well as his early collaborations with record producer Pi'erre Bourne.

Early life

Duwap was born in Savannah, Georgia.

Career

His first song was uploaded to YouTube in 2011, titled "Elmo Freestyle." Duwap released the song under the alias Dolphin God, when he was in fourth grade. During the beginnings of his career under Duwap Kaine, he uploaded one of his first singles "A Stove Is a Stove" on SoundCloud to a modest viral hit, crossing over a million plays.[3] With production support from Pi'erre Bourne, Kaine created additional tracks with traction, with one of them being "Santa", which is his highest streamed track to date. In September 2017, he was labeled by American rapper Lil Yachty as one of his favorite rappers.[5] Kaine has many other music relationships in the music industry such as Trippie Red.[8]

Kaine released his debut album, Underdog, on July 4, 2018. In March 2019, he released a single titled "Flyin",[9] then in August 2019, he released a single titled "Epic Fail".[10] In June 2022, he released his project Faith Like Esther.[2][7][6]

Musical style

He is known as one of the pioneers of the Soundcloud rap era. His rapping style includes layered vocals and Autotune.
