Andrea Elizabeth Dawkins (born 20 February 1965)[1] is an Australian politician. She represented Bass in the Tasmanian House of Assembly from 9 June 2015, when she was elected in a countback to replace Kim Booth, until 3 March 2018, when she was defeated at the 2018 state election. She represented the Tasmanian Greens.[2]

In August 2018, Dawkins announced that she would stand for deputy mayor of the City of Launceston as an independent, confirming she had ended her membership of the Greens.[3]

Dawkins attended Launceston College, and holds a Diploma of Management. Prior to her election, Dawkins served as an alderman on Launceston City Council.[4] She also developed and ran a social enterprise café called "Fresh on Charles" on Charles Street, Launceston from 1999 until 2013, when she sold the business. Following this, she worked in business development at Josef Chromy Wines, and later as manager of the Launceston Harvest Market. Dawkins was again elected to City of Launceston Council in 2018 and 2022. [5] In 2019 Councillor Andrea Dawkins tabled a motion at the City of Launceston Council to investigate the phasing out of single use plastics in council business and sponsored events by 2022. This motion was ultimately successful and the initiative was recognised by the Local Governments Information Unit (LGiU) [5] In her 2022 campaign Andrea highlighted the need for further community conversations around a clean air strategy for the valley, pursuing regulation removing of single-use-plastics from our local government area and the importance of furthering investigations regarding confining cats to property for biosecurity and safety reasons [6]. Andrea supports sustainable development, and was one of the councillors that supported the Gorge Hotel Development. Andrea was inducted to the honour roll for women, for her service to community, advocacy and inclusion; government and public services. [7] Andrea is the Deputy Chief Officer of RSPCA Tasmania [8], and sits on the Newstead College School Association. Andrea Dawkins is passionate about improving lives and providing a voice for marginalised Tasmanians and animals. Andrea has championed policies to ensure that people should not be discriminated against for any reason – including gender and sexual diversity. On Friday the 26th of May 2023, Andrea announced that she will run for Mayor of the City of Launceston, following the stepping down of Danny Gibson on May 15th, 2023 [9 ]. Dawkins is a vegetarian and animal welfare advocate. She has two daughters.[6]
