Akbar Ayub Khan is a prominent Pakistani politician who has held various ministerial positions in the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He has served as Minister of Communication and Work department, Education, Local Government, Elections, and Rural Development, as well as holding additional responsibilities for Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Human Rights ministry. He is of the Tareen Tribe ,and was a member of the provincial assembly from 2014 to 2018 and from 2018 to 2023. Akbar Ayub Khan is also known for his successful business career prior to entering politics, and he is the grandson of former President of Pakistan, Field Marshal Ayub Khan.

Early life

Akbar Ayub was born in the village of Rehana in Haripur District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. After completing his primary education, he attended Army Burn Hall College where he completed his metric education. At the age of 17, he began working and gained valuable experience in the petroleum, real estate, and property development industries in Pakistan.

Akbar Ayub Khan's entrepreneurial spirit and hard work led him to become a successful businessman, leveraging his education and business experience. Later, he decided to enter politics and ran for the PK-50 constituency in the elections in 2014. His perseverance and dedication helped him succeed, and he became a prominent figure in Pakistani politics.

Political career

Akbar Ayub Khan is a seasoned politician from Pakistan who has had an illustrious career in the public service sector. In the 2014 by-elections, he contested as a member of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf from the PK-50 Haripur-II constituency and emerged victorious, defeating both his opponents from the PMLN and an independent candidate. Subsequently, he was appointed as an advisor to the Communication and Work department, a post which he held until 2018.

In the 2018 Pakistan general elections, he once again ran for a seat from the PTI party, this time from the PK-40 Haripur-I constituency, and won with a clear margin. Following his victory, he was appointed as the Minister of Communication and Work department, a position which he held until January 2020. It was during this time that he spearheaded many successful initiatives and brought about significant improvements in the sector.

In January 2020, there was a reshuffle in the KP department, and Akbar Ayub Khan was appointed as the Minister of Education. He continued to serve in this capacity for several months before being reassigned to the post of Minister of Local Government, Elections, and Rural Development in September 2020. Furthermore, he was entrusted with additional responsibilities, including holding the portfolios for Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Human Rights ministry in February 2021, which he took over from Sultan Muhammad Khan.

In May 2021, the law portfolio was assigned to Fazal Shakoor Khan.

Akbar Ayub Khan resigned as the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Human Rights, and Parliamentary Affairs in August 2021, citing health issues and his responsibilities towards his constituency. He continued to serve as a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until it was dissolved in January 2023.
